National Health Service launches diabetes micro-site

From diabetestimes.co.uk

A diabetes micro-site has been launched online as part of the celebrations for the NHS turning 70 this year.

The Spotlight on Diabetes site provides users with an overview of what is currently being done by the health service in terms of  diabetes prevention, treatment and care.
A blog video from the national clinical director for diabetes and obesity, Professor Jonathan Valabhji can be viewed. During the clip he reflects on how diabetes care has changed since 1948.
He said: “Since the NHS was first established in the 1948, I think we’ve seen vast changes, developments. evolutions in healthcare generally, but more specifically in diabetes. I wold probably put the changes, which have been vast, into three categories.
“The first is the changes in our population of people with diabetes, the population demographics that we see. The second is the technologies that we’ve seen evolving over the last 70 years and third is the improvements and the outcomes for people with diabetes.”
A short animation explaining the Healthier You: NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme has also been included. The cartoon explains why it was set up and how it works, as well as how to access it.
It also outlines some of the health complications which can arise from having the condition such as kidney problems, premature sight loss and even stroke.
The NHS will have officially been in operation for 70 years on the 5 July 2018. Throughout the year a series of events, case studies and achievements have been celebrated to mark the occasion and to thank the staff.
