Internationally renowned diabetes consultant Dr David Cavan has published, in partnership with Diabetes.co.uk, a new book to help people take control of type 1 diabetes.

The book, entitled 'Take Control of Type 1 Diabetes: A comprehensive guide to self-management and staying well', aims to reduce stress among individuals and families affected by type 1 diabetes.

Dr Cavan (pictured), who has more than 25 years working as a diabetes doctor, has drafted six principles that he says will help people struggling to control their diabetes, including guidance on insulin pump therapy and the latest technology available.

Dr Cavan said: "My aim is to reduce the impact of diabetes for individuals who have, or are at risk of developing diabetes, as well as on communities by supporting projects that help improve diabetes services."

Formerly the Director of Policy and Programmes at the International Diabetes Federation, Dr Cavan worked as a consultant physician for 17 years at the Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Centre.

He is also the author of Reverse Your Diabetes (2014) and Reverse Your Diabetes Diet (2016).

Now, Dr Cavan oversees a diabetes programme in Bermuda and also works part time as an NHS consultant in Brighton.

Dr Cavan’s new book will be available from Thursday 7 June and is currently available for pre-order at the Diabetes Shop.
