To reduce the chances of developing type 2 diabetes, losing weight is recommended, especially if you are above the healthy weight range. Losing 7-10% of your current weight can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 50%.

The study recommends that replacing sedentary behaviour with standing or light-intensity physical activity, in addition to regular exercise, may decrease the risk of chronic diseases and mortality. The study also suggests several ways to counteract prolonged sitting, such as taking frequent breaks, standing during meetings, walking during lunchtime, and engaging in less-sedentary activities instead of watching TV in the evening.
