Finger Prick For Diabetes Patients Could Be A Thing Of The Past

From MSN.com

Sufferers from Diabetes are often required to test their own blood glucose levels, which means constant finger pricks. But scientists in Wales think they have come up with a better solution, with a device that will allow for more continuous monitoring. Researchers at Cardiff University have designed a device that tests glucose levels through the skin using microwaves, eliminating the need for blood as well as testing supplies that often come with expiration dates. The device can be worn discreetly, allowing for continuous monitoring -- even over the Web. This would mean doctors may also monitor their patient's conditions remotely as well. The researchers have been carrying out trials already, with more tests planned for later this year, with the goal of having a device ready for public use within five years.
