The flu vaccine helps protect people with diabetes from cardiovascular disease and premature mortality, concludes a study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, which analysed the medical records of nearly 125,000 people with type 2 diabetes in England over a seven-year period. After adjusting for age and other health-related variables, the researchers found that people who were vaccinated were significantly less likely to be admitted to the hospital for strokes, heart failure, pneumonia, or influenza and 24 percent less likely to die from any cause.
